Word is going around that Apple may be looking to acquire the UK based ARM Holdings, the company that provides chip designs for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and a number of other mobile devices. While ARM doesn’t actually make chips, it does license its technology out to other companies, companies that make chips for HTC, Samsung, Sony, Nokia, Nintendo, and many others. If acquired by Apple, this could prevent future ARM designs from making their way into devices that compete with Apple including Android and Palm headsets and even the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS. ‘Replay’ : Google Search Across Twitter Archive

Ever since Google has introduced real-time search last December, it has regularly come up with updates and has succeeded in adding content from Facebook, Twitter and Buzz apart from handling searched in almost 40 languages. Their latest offering now is the tweet-archive search! This implies one can check what others are currently saying and more importantly ‘whats already been said’ in Twitter. The feature lets you keep track of the timeline of tweets by ‘Replaying’ what was tweeted on a topic on a particular day, in a particular hour and even that particular minute when you were busy cleaning your pet. Have you ever wondered how the term cell-phone originated? Probably, a kid would point to  the cell(battery) in cell-phone. Not a bad guess for a kid, but the actual reason is each tower that broadcasts a signal covers a fixed area under its belt which is known as a cell, and the entire network is made up of thousands of cells making up the entire system. Hence the term cell-phone.

Cellphones have evolved immensely since 1983, both in design and function. The history of cellphones begins with the development of radio-telephone technology and ends at the emergence of the modern mobile phone and its associated services.

First Android Powered TV Announced

A Swedish company named ‘People of Lava’ (lol), is first in-line to sell an internet-enabled, Android-based TV set. Interestingly it will also be the first television manufactured within Sweden for decades. Their new television line called the Scandinavia will first be released in a 42-inch version, followed by 47- and 55-inch sizes. The 42-inch version will be priced between 2,000 euros (US$2,693) and 2,500 euros ($3,366) during its launch globally in September.

Starting today, from time to time we would keep you posted on major highlights in technology over the past few decades that have been very influential in man’s history. We hope you will enjoy it. The 7th of April, 1964 marked a change in the entire concept of computers when IBM announced the System/360 line of Mainframe computers. One of the first successful computer lines, this daring innovation by the International Business Machines Corp. had turned out to be one of the two biggest technology investments of the twentieth century (the other being the investment to put man on the moon, and interestingly enough, NASA employed System/360s for the Apollo 11 mission!!)
